Do you live in the municipality of Sorell, Tasmania?
Thanks to the Sorell Council for the use of this map on the blog and to Moya Sharpe for the municipality timeline which was updated by members of the Sorell Historical Society in 2017.
A wiki was begun in 2008 by Miss Wyatt who was teaching history to her students in grades 6/7 at the local Sorell School. As part of their curriculum, students researched topics of interest in their community, interviewed locals about their memories then presented their findings on a wiki.
As Miss Wyatt has now retired, the wiki had been handed over to the Sorell Historical Society for their use. Miss Wyatt tidied the wiki up and gave credit to those students who wrote certain sections.
Now that wikispaces is closing down, Miss Wyatt has decided to transfer the wiki to a blog ready to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Sorell as a town in Tasmania.
The easiest ways to find information will be:
- Visit the timeline in the navigation bar and click on a link related to topic of interest OR
- In the sidebar, find information about your topic of interest OR
- In the sidebar, find a group you are interested in such as early families, businesses, churches etc
